近代の出発点となった思想と感情における変革は、我々の時代の建築形態や建築空間を変えただけではない. 形而上学的な存在として人間を捉えると同時に、光に対する新しい感覚も表現しながら、建築がもつ雰囲気や情感をも変容させた. 新しい光の概念は科学だけではなく、芸術においても構想された. 光の活き活きしたエネルギーは、活動性の、可動性の、反射性のある物体の内部で共鳴し、人間の身体や精神に変化をもたらし、 20世紀の建築のパイオニアたちに、人間の知覚の拡大や、現代に精神生活を回復させる手段をもたらしたのであった.
